Georgia College & State University Presents The Dr. John Sallstrom Blood Drive
We have been particiating in blood drives for many years at GC & SU. A few years ago, The GIVE Center and Gamma Sigma Sigma started sponsoring the campus blood drives. At this time, we decided to name our campus blood drives “in honor of” of the very deserving Dr. John Sallstrom who has given many pints of blood in his lifetime and due to his health situation he can no longer give blood. He donated almost 13 gallons of blood and was about to receive his 13 gallon pin when he found out he no longer could give blood anymore. Together The GIVE Center, Gamma Sigma Sigma and The American Red Cross gave him his 13 gallon pin in appreciation of his many years of service to The American Red Cross. One of the neatest things about Dr. Sallstrom is that he started giving blood many years at the campus drives for a friend of his who could no longer give blood due to a medical situation and now we have individuals that give blood in place of Dr. John Sallstrom. However he is still a very active volunteer and a supporter of our campus blood drives even if he can not actually give blood. This was one simple way we could honor and show our appreciation for this dedication and support of The American Red Cross Blood Drives. These blood drives are located in our Student Union and are usually from Noon- 5:00pm. One creative aspect to our blood drives is that they are theme- based blood drives. We have a Halloween Blood Drive, a Super Bowl Blood Drive, and then we have a Spring Blood Drive. Our goal is to collect numerous pints of blood, but we also want to make the blood drives fun to come also.
